China has a lot to offer.  The country is as large as the states with a lot more people!  But if you want to see the most in a limited time Beijing is your best bet!

Offering quick access to multiple sections of the great wall, Beijing is the place you can go to get the best exposure to the most iconic Chinese attraction.  Do your research before going so you know which section you want to go to.

We went to the Lake section and to Mutianyu.  Of the two the latter was much better but the lake section much more quiet.  If you plan your trip right you can trek from one section to the next.  You can chose to remain on restored sections or go on ‘wild’ sections that haven’t been touched.  The area west of Mutianyu was ‘wild’ and fun! After you leave the restored section the number of people dwindles to just a few as the trekking isn’t easy.  It is amazingly beautiful though and worth every drop of sweat to go and see.

Beijing also offers so many temples that you can’t count them all!  Temple of heaven, Tanzhe Temple, Lama Temple, and Temple of the Sun are just a few.  Visiting these famous landmarks usually involve an entry fee and large crowds.  But they are worth the time it takes to visit as they are spectacular.

As with other things, do your research ahead of time so you don’t waste time in places you don’t want go.  Also, during major holidays, the temples can get very busy.  Chinese New Year is a huge holiday that fills the Lama Temple and also has many temple fairs around the city.

There are also so many historical places that dot the city scape of Beijing.  You must visit Teinimen Square, the Forbidden City, and the Ming Tombs.  But there are so many more to see.  The city was founded in 221 BC so there are  many things that have happened there.  You won’t run out of things to learn visiting all of these places.  There have been a lot of Dynasties over the years that have all left their impressions on the City.

Finnaly, Beijing offers a HUGE array of food selections.  The best of the foods from all over China come together in Beijing.  They don’t truly reflect the flavors from around the country but they are a great sampling.  Hotpot, Noodles, Duck, and Dumplings are just a few of the offerings that you simply must try.  Don’t be afraid to try things as they are all so good.  And if you are truly adventurous there are some street foods that rival the weirdest things you can find in the world.  These include meal worms, crickets, scorpions, and squids.  Give one a try so you can say you did it.  ha ha.  Other street foods can often be amazing like noodle stir fry, fried tofu, lamb kabobs, and dumplings.  Give the foods a try, you won’t regret it!

Overall this city as a lot to offer in a local package.  There is a lot of traffic, tuns of people, and smog but with all the other things that Beijing has to offer you won’t even notice.  We just scratched the surface here but there is much more to see and do: the Zoo, Museums, Olympic Park, and Tai Chi classes to name just a few!  Get to Beijing and experience China at its finest!
